St. Joseph's Primary School

Highlight of The Month:

Feast Day of St. John Baptist De LaSalle was held on 20th May, 2010.

The sponsoring body of the school is the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, known as the 'La Salle Brothers', named after the founder of the Institute, John Baptist de La Salle.

The aim of the Institute is to give a human and Christian education to the young, especially the poor.

The spirit of the Institute is of FAITH and ZEAL: to have faith in God and an ardent zeal to teach the children. This is also a mission shared by all La Sallian schools in Hong Kong.

All La Sallian schools are committed to helping young people to develop themselves fully as human persons, to learn to live as brothers and sisters in a world of justice.

The mission of St. Joseph's Primary School is to educate students in areas of moral, intellectual, physical, social, aesthetic and spiritual development. The process will take place in an environment conducive to learning and in the context of interaction between staff and students.

The policy of the school is to provide an All Round Education, with equal emphasis on extra-curricular competency development as well as academic excellence.

Three essential activities of the school year are the Annual Athletic Meet, the Parents' Day and the publication of the School Magazine.

Student Guidance takes the form of a Whole School Approach and a balance is struck between discipline and counselling by a deliberate integration of job description of the team members.

A Conduct Award Scheme is in operation with special emphasis to give recognition to the very ordinary students for their standard performance in school, who do not break any school regulations though they are not outstanding in academic achievements, or in any other areas. We believe that given opportunity, these ordinary students may contribute equally substantially to society in future as their more outstanding counterparts when they grow up as long as their interest in studies and law-abiding attitudes are sustained in their early years.

The St. Joseph's Primary School PTA plays a very important role in facilitating a communication between school and parents. Sufficient opportunities for teacher-parent contacts are provided in the form of parent receptions initiated by the school, annual gatherings for special purposes such as briefings on education systems or policies, and less formal gatherings initiated by the PTA for a friendly exchange of views.

The Parents' Day offers a good opportunity to discuss progress of the students' performances in all aspects. Interviews are also arranged for parents in need on special issues. Parents as partners in education are vital in our school system.
