The World Union of Lasallian Former Students, UMAEL in short, is the worldwide fraternity group of all the Lasallian former students educated by the La Salle Brothers. It is an integral part of the Lasallian Family. The Alumni Associations of the five Lasallian secondary schools in Hong Kong are members of UMAEL.

The Executive Committee of UMAEL holds an annual meeting in different parts of the Lasallian world in an effort to maintain regular contact with member associations. Hong Kong was chosen as the venue for this year's meeting. The meeting took place in La Salle College on November 18 and 19. Six overseas members, including Bro Claude Reinhardt, a General Councillor of the La Salle Brothers and the Adviser to UMAEL, and Mr Rose Ramon Batiste Penaranda, the President, attended the meeting. Mr Nicholas W.F. Ng, a Past President of the La Salle College Old Boys' Association and a member of the UMAEL Executive Committee for the Pacific Asia Region, acted as the host country co-ordinator.

During their stay in Hong Kong, the members visited La Salle College, La Salle Primary School and St. Joseph College. They met representatives of the five Hong Kong Alumni Associations at the welcome dinner given by them. They were also taken on a tour of Hong Kong as a round up to their visit by the Lasallian Education Council.

Hong Kong was honoured to act as host to this annual event. This was the first visit to Hong Kong for all the overseas members. They were most impressed with the vibrancy of the Lasallian schools in Hong Kong and the strong fraternity displayed by the Hong Kong Lasallian Alumni Associations. Hong Kong will long be remembered by our visitors.
