"Together in Faith-Full Service" Young Lasallians, from Asia-Pacific countries gathered in Hong Kong to celebrate the 7th Asia-Pacific Lasallian Youth Congress. Reflecting the theme of the conference we met to share our lives, cultures, Young Lasallian programs and the passion we have for spreading the Lasallian Charism. Central to the Congress was discussing the Lasallian mission regarding the Rights of the child. This induded presentations from key Note Speakers, RukShan Fernando, Human Rights Defenders Project coordinator for Asia, Connie Tsang, Education Officer of HongKong Committee for UNlCEF and our own Br. Victor Franco (General Councilor), as well as district presentations of the realities of the countries we represented. The Congress was full of the richness and diversity that makes up each of our communities within the Asia Pacific region. Together we shared Mass and times of prayer service projects, as well as group discussion, meals, socialization, games, dances and so much more. lt was easy to see that not one person who entered the congress left without being changed. Before the APLYC, all these were just details in my planner. lt was just an ordinary entry. Then came the big day when we flew in from the Philippines to Hong Kong. We were welcomed with warm smiles and friendly handshakes. Language was not a problem. All it took was a big smile and a common greeting, "Hi! How are you doing?"... the APLYC fire was set =... During the event, l was so happy to finally meet fellow Lasallians from the Asia-Pacific region. We are different in so many ways but I'm glad to know that we all have a common mission. l was moved when we had the immersion activity because it reminded me of my cousin, who joined our Creator already. She was so dear to me because she is a special child. The kids in the special school that I went to look exactly the same as my cousin. The APLYC fire raged wildly in my heart. l will embrace the mission and accomplish my task. After all the activities we went through, l know that l have a group... a team... a family... l'm not alone in hoping for a better future for God's children. APLYC7 is over but l have fond memories of everybody. The Haka from New Zealand, dances |
